Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has emphatically denied allegations of misconduct during a boarding incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on August 5, 2025.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, Kwam 1 described the reports alleging unruly behaviour and a breach of aviation protocols as “exaggerated and misleading”. The controversy arose when airport security and airline personnel reportedly flagged a substance in a flask he was carrying. Kwam 1 insists the container held nothing more than plain drinking water, which was unnecessarily sensationalized—prompting an escalation of the situation despite his attempts to clarify.
Contrary to claims that he blocked a departing aircraft or disrupted operations, his team maintained that he has a long-standing reputation for respecting aviation rules. Rasheed emphasized that had Kwam 1 truly violated protocols, senior aviation officials—including the Head of Airport Security, FAAN, NCAA representatives, and ValueJet’s top executives—would not have personally reached out to apologize, nor to offer to fly him to Lagos on a private jet—an offer he declined.
Moreover, Kwam 1’s camp maintains that he was the victim, not the aggressor. Only he and his personal assistant were directly involved, and several eyewitness passengers reportedly urged him to remain calm amidst the mounting pressure.
Adding to the complexity of the incident, the pilot involved has had her license suspended, a move seen by Kwam 1’s representatives as a potential attempt to deflect blame.
Despite Kwam 1’s denials, aviation authorities have taken serious action. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has placed him on a no-fly list, suspending his ability to board domestic flights pending the outcome of the investigation. This action occurred alongside the suspension of the involved pilots for safety breaches.
