Heung-min Son has officially completed his move to Los Angeles FC, marking a landmark moment in Major League Soccer history. The 33-year-old South Korean forward leaves Tottenham Hotspur after ten remarkable years, joining LAFC for a reported £20 million—an MLS record transfer fee.
Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and quickly became one of the Premier League’s most electrifying talents. Across 454 appearances, he scored 173 goals and delivered 101 assists, forming a historic partnership with Harry Kane that produced a record 47 combined goal involvements in the league.
In his final season, Son captained Tottenham to Europa League glory, securing the club’s first major trophy in nearly two decades. Reflecting on his journey, he shared an emotional farewell:
“I was just a boy from Korea with big dreams who was supposed to have no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is in my heart forever.”
His move to LAFC signals not only a new chapter in his career but also a significant moment for MLS, which continues to attract global stars. Son reunites with former Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris and joins a club based in a city with one of the largest Korean communities in the United States.
Currently sixth in the Western Conference, LAFC hopes Son’s arrival will energize their campaign for silverware. He was already seen attending the club’s recent Leagues Cup win over Tigres, hinting at his eagerness to make an immediate impact.
Son departs Tottenham as one of the club’s all-time greats and a trailblazer for Asian footballers in Europe. His presence in MLS is expected to elevate the league’s profile ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.
As LAFC forward Denis Bouanga put it: “He’s a star in the Premier League and he will be a star in the MLS.”
