Jamie Gittens has officially taken part in his first pre-season training session with Chelsea, marking an important step in his integration into the squad following his high-profile move from Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old winger was spotted at Cobham Training Centre, joining his new teammates as preparations ramp up for the 2025/26 campaign.

Gittens signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea on July 5, 2025, in a deal worth an initial £48.5 million, with potential add-ons increasing the fee further. The England youth international, who previously spent time at Chelsea as a youngster before opting to join Reading and later Manchester City’s academy, had been on Dortmund’s books since 2020. Chelsea see Gittens as a long-term prospect, drawing comparisons with Jadon Sancho due to his speed, dribbling ability, and creativity on the wing.

Footage from the training ground captured Gittens participating in various drills alongside both senior players and fellow new arrivals, including Liam Delap and João Pedro. Wesley Fofana also returned to training after a lengthy injury layoff. Head coach Enzo Maresca oversaw the session, working with his full squad for the first time since Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup victory earlier this summer.

Gittens was not registered for the Club World Cup, meaning the pre-season period offers a vital opportunity to build chemistry with the team and adapt to Maresca’s tactical demands. The coaching staff are optimistic that the winger will quickly find his footing and become an integral part of the team moving forward.

Chelsea will play their first pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, August 8, at Stamford Bridge, followed by a clash with AC Milan on Sunday, August 10. Both fixtures present opportunities for Gittens to make his unofficial debut in front of the home crowd.
