Napoli Edge Cagliari with Last-Gasp Anguissa Strike to Maintain Perfect Serie A Start and Extend Unbeaten Run to 14 Matches

Napoli secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, maintaining their perfect start to the Serie A season.

 In a match that looked destined to end in frustration for the reigning champions, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa emerged as the hero with a dramatic stoppage-time winner. Antonio Conte’s side dominated possession from the outset, controlling the tempo and probing for openings against a disciplined Cagliari defence.

 Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay both came close, while Matteo Politano’s curling effort skimmed the crossbar. Cagliari, organised and resilient, threatened sporadically on the counter, with Zito Luvumbo’s dangerous delivery narrowly evading sliding teammates in a rare moment of alarm for the hosts.  

Napoli’s persistence was finally rewarded deep into added time when Alessandro Buongiorno’s low cross from the left found Anguissa, who swept the ball home first-time from 12 yards to ignite celebrations in the stands. 

The result extends Napoli’s unbeaten league run to 14 matches and marks their second consecutive win to open the 2025–26 campaign. For Cagliari, it was a valiant defensive display undone by a single lapse in the dying moments, leaving them still searching for their first victory of the season.
