Son expressed his gratitude to Spurs, the fans, and his teammates, saying he arrived in North London as a young man who didn’t speak English and now leaves as a grown man. The 33-year-old said Tottenham fully respects and supports his decision, adding that he hopes everyone understands the reasons behind it.
Having joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for around £22 million, Son went on to make 454 appearances, scoring 173 goals and registering 101 assists. He became one of the club’s all-time greats, ranking fourth in Tottenham’s all-time top scorers list, and won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021–22 season. He was made club captain in 2023 and lifted his first major trophy with Spurs in May 2025, when they won the UEFA Europa League.
Although Son didn’t confirm his next destination, reports suggest he is close to joining Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC. Spurs manager Thomas Frank praised Son’s loyalty and achievements, stating that leaving after a European trophy was a fitting end to his legendary spell at the club.
Son is expected to play his final match in a Spurs shirt during the pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul, giving his home fans the chance to bid him farewell.
