Thomas Partey Signs One‑Year Deal with Villarreal as a Free Agent

Villarreal CF has officially secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey on a one-year contract, with an option for a further 12 months. The Spanish club revealed that Partey — whose contract with Arsenal expired in late June — joins as a free agent ahead of the 2025–26 season.
The announcement follows Partey’s recent court appearance in London, where he was granted conditional bail while facing serious legal charges in England, including five counts of rape and one of sexual assault. These charges pertain to alleged incidents occurring between 2021 and 2022.

In their statement, Villarreal reinforced their respect for the principle of presumption of innocence and asserted their commitment to diversity, human dignity, and the condemnation of all forms of violence and discrimination. The club indicated that it would refrain from further commentary due to the legal restrictions in place in England.

Partey is set to integrate into the squad promptly, joining training sessions on Friday. His move comes just after Villarreal defeated Arsenal 3–2 in a pre-season friendly, and ahead of the Yellow Submarine’s La Liga opener against newly promoted Real Oviedo on August 16.
