Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has officially resumed training with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, following the collapse of his proposed transfer to AC Milan due to a failed medical examination.
The 24-year-old forward had traveled to Milan in late August to finalize a season-long loan deal that included a €5 million fee and a €24 million option to buy. However, after undergoing a series of medical evaluations, Milan’s medical team flagged concerns over Boniface’s right knee—an area previously affected by two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries sustained during his time at Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt.
Despite initial optimism surrounding the move, AC Milan opted to cancel the deal, citing long-term fitness risks. Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, stating that Boniface had returned to Germany after spending 48 hours in Milan.
Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes acknowledged the situation, noting that while Boniface’s physical condition has improved, the failed transfer was no surprise. “If he comes back to Leverkusen, the Milan deal will be over. That’s no big secret,” Rolfes told German outlet BILD.
