Zlatan Ibrahimović has been named the winner of the 2025 UEFA President’s Award, as announced today by UEFA. The honor was presented by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin during the 2025/26 Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Monaco .
The award acknowledges individuals whose contributions extend beyond outstanding on-field performance. It celebrates those who exhibit exemplary achievements both professionally and personally—emphasizing excellence, character, and impact beyond football .
Ibrahimović’s storied career is marked by iconic goals, magnetic confidence, and an ability to elevate the teams he has represented. Off the pitch, he has quietly supported humanitarian causes, including significant donations to hospitals and initiatives that benefit children, while using his influence to address hunger, education, and disaster relief .
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin praised Ibrahimović not just for his sporting glory but also for his humanity, calling him “the ultimate competitor, a natural-born winner, and a pop-culture icon.” He added, “Above all, he’s a remarkable human being—a golden boy who never forgot his roots, quietly putting compassion before recognition, always reaching out to those in need. I’m very proud that this year’s award found its way into his hands” .
In his acceptance, Ibrahimović expressed heartfelt gratitude: “To receive this award is a big honour. I want to thank the UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin for this. It means I did something in my career or else I wouldn’t get it. I’m super happy. I was lucky to play with big players and big clubs. It made me the person I am today. I’m just grateful and thankful” .
UEFA introduced the President’s Award in 1998 to annually recognize football figures who significantly contribute to the sport and beyond. Notable past recipients include Gianluigi Buffon in 2024, Miroslav Klose in 2023, Arrigo Sacchi in 2022, and Denmark’s team and staff in 2021 for their unity and medical heroism during Christian Eriksen’s on-field collapse .
