Arne Slot Blasts One Of His Players After Late Error in Liverpool’s 2-1 Loss to Crystal Palace

Arne Slot voiced his frustration after Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, openly calling out one of his players for a costly mistake in the dying moments of the game.

Speaking after the match, the Liverpool manager said: “One of our players decided to run out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up!”

He stressed that the team should have focused on holding their ground instead of risking everything at such a critical point.

The game started poorly for Liverpool as Ismaïla Sarr put Crystal Palace ahead in the 9th minute with a composed finish. Liverpool struggled to break through Palace’s defensive shape despite dominating possession and creating chances. Their persistence eventually paid off when Federico Chiesa levelled the score in the 87th minute, sparking hopes of a late turnaround.

However, those hopes were dashed in stoppage time when Eddie Nketiah capitalised on defensive indecision to slot home the decisive goal, sealing a 2-1 win for Palace. The late strike handed Liverpool their first defeat of the Premier League season and left Slot lamenting what he described as an unnecessary lapse in discipline.

Reflecting on the performance, Slot admitted his side showed determination in attack but were too careless defensively. “Maybe we were too offensively minded — not we, one player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner, us losing the game,” he explained. He also pointed to struggles in defending set-pieces and transitions, acknowledging that the team could only blame themselves for the way they handled the final minutes.

Palace’s victory was well received by the Selhurst Park crowd, with manager Oliver Glasner praising his side’s resilience.
