Bayern Munich President Claims Alexander Isak Replacement At Newcastle Isn't Worth €90m

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß has criticized the recent transfer of Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United, calling the €90 million fee “not justified.”

Speaking to Sport1 Doppelpass, Hoeneß remarked, “Woltemade isn't worth the €90m fee,” and attributed the inflated valuation to external financial influence: “That only happened because of the money flowing from Saudi Arabia.”

Woltemade’s move from VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle was finalized in late August 2025, with the Premier League club agreeing to a club-record fee of €85 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The 23-year-old striker signed a long-term contract until 2031 and was officially unveiled after completing his medical in England.

The transfer followed a standout 2024/25 season for Woltemade, during which he made 33 appearances across all competitions and scored 17 goals. In the Bundesliga, he featured in 28 matches, netting 12 goals, and added 5 goals in 5 appearances in the DFB-Pokal. His consistent performances were instrumental in Stuttgart’s campaign and drew interest from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, whose lower bid was ultimately rejected.

Woltemade expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating, “From the first contact, I felt like the club really wanted me and had big plans for me. It already feels like family.” His arrival is expected to bolster Newcastle’s attacking options, especially amid ongoing speculation surrounding Alexander Isak’s future at the club.
