Raheem Sterling Exiled from Chelsea First Team, Forced to Train Alone at Night

Raheem Sterling’s situation at Chelsea has taken a dramatic turn, with the England international now training alone at the club’s Cobham facility—often as late as 8PM. The 30-year-old winger, who earns a reported £325,000 per week, has been excluded from manager Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans and relegated to what is internally referred to as the “bomb squad”.
Sterling’s isolation follows a failed summer transfer window in which Chelsea attempted to offload him to reduce their wage bill. Despite interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Europe—including Bayern Munich and Napoli—Sterling opted to remain in London, prioritizing family stability and his ambition to return to the England national team.

The consequences of that decision have been stark. Sterling has reportedly been instructed to eat separately, use different facilities, and train away from the main squad. A recent Instagram story posted by the player showed him preparing for a solo session at 8:21PM, underscoring the extent of his exclusion.

Chelsea’s stance reflects a broader shift in how the club manages players deemed surplus to requirements. Alongside Sterling, defender Axel Disasi and forward David Datro Fofana have also been isolated after failing to secure moves away.

With the next transfer window not opening until January, Sterling faces months of solitude and uncertainty. Unless Chelsea reverses its position, the former Manchester City star may remain sidelined—both on and off the pitch—until a suitable exit route is found.
