What Chelsea Striker Said After Blues Canceled His Loan Move

Chelsea have officially recalled Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland, just weeks after the promising Spanish striker joined the Championship side. The decision was prompted by an injury crisis at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Delap sidelined due to a hamstring issue sustained during Chelsea’s 2–0 win over Fulham.

Guiu had made only three appearances for Sunderland, including a goal in the League Cup against Huddersfield Town, and was expected to spend the season gaining valuable experience under Regis Le Bris. However, Chelsea moved swiftly to bring him back, securing a verbal agreement with Sunderland to terminate the loan early.

While Guiu has not given a formal interview since the recall, he shared a heartfelt message on Instagram reflecting on his brief but meaningful time at Sunderland. “Short, really short… but intense,” he wrote. “In just a few weeks, I’ve come to understand what football truly means to this city and how that passion creates a unique and unmatched atmosphere at the Stadium of Light. It has been an absolute honour to wear this jersey, and although fate is unpredictable and had other plans for me, I can assure you that these colours and this city will forever hold a place in my heart.” He concluded with a warm farewell: “Thank you to everyone at Sunderland AFC for the warm welcome and support, I wish you all the very best for the future. See you soon @sunderlandafc. Ha’way the lads!!! ❤️🤍❤️”

Guiu’s return to Chelsea places him as a backup option behind Joao Pedro, as manager Enzo Maresca looks to reinforce the squad amid transfer window turbulence. Despite the abrupt end to his loan, Guiu’s maturity and gratitude have left a lasting impression on Sunderland fans, and his development will be closely watched as he re-enters the fold at Stamford Bridge.
