Bayern Munich has officially announced that manager Vincent Kompany will remain at the helm until the end of the 2028/29 season, following a two-year extension to his existing contract. The 39-year-old Belgian tactician originally joined the club in May 2024 and made an immediate impact, guiding Bayern to the Bundesliga title in his debut season.
Under Kompany’s leadership, Bayern has enjoyed a remarkable run, including lifting the German Super Cup and starting the current campaign with seven consecutive league victories. The team currently sits five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
In a statement released by the club, Kompany expressed his gratitude: “I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one. It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey.”
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised Kompany’s influence, noting that he has “brought the fun back to Bayern” and cultivated a team that plays “dominant and attractive football.” The extension, Dreesen added, “is also a signal to our players.”
Kompany’s appointment came during a turbulent period for the club, following the departure of Thomas Tuchel and a string of managerial changes. Despite initial skepticism due to his previous stint at Burnley, Kompany has quickly earned the trust of Bayern’s hierarchy and supporters alike.
