Chelsea's Cole Palmer Returns to Team Training Amid Injury Recovery

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has taken a significant step toward his first-team comeback, rejoining full squad training at the club's Cobham facility on Monday afternoon. The 23-year-old England international, sidelined for over two months due to a persistent groin injury sustained during the FIFA Club World Cup in September, appeared in high spirits as he participated in drills and ball work alongside his teammates.

Palmer's progress comes after a minor setback last week, when he fractured the little toe on his left foot in a freak household accident—stubbing it on a door. Despite the delay, which ruled him out of Saturday's 2-0 Premier League victory over Burnley and Tuesday's upcoming Champions League clash with Barcelona at Stamford Bridge, the forward was warmly welcomed back by the squad. He trained in custom-adapted boots featuring enhanced cushioning around the injured area to facilitate a safe recovery.
Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed Palmer's involvement in the session, noting the player's positive response to the protective footwear. "Cole is feeling good and has been back in individual training," Maresca said earlier. "We're taking it day by day, but this is encouraging." While the Barcelona fixture on November 25 remains too soon for a match appearance, sources indicate Palmer could be in contention for Sunday's pivotal Premier League encounter against league leaders Arsenal, provided there are no further issues. A win there would position Chelsea—just three points adrift after recent results—just three points from the top spot.

Palmer's absence has been keenly felt, with the creative playmaker limited to only four appearances this season prior to his layoff. Chelsea have thrived without him, winning eight of their last 11 matches across all competitions to climb to second in the Premier League table. However, Maresca has emphasized Palmer's irreplaceable quality: "His teammates are better players with Cole on the pitch."

During his time on the sidelines, Palmer has maintained close ties with the group, attending matches from the stands and observing sessions when possible. He has also dedicated recovery periods to gym work, reportedly enhancing his physique to bolster long-term fitness. His determination stems partly from ambitions to secure a spot in England's 2026 World Cup squad under Thomas Tuchel, having featured just once internationally in the past year.

Chelsea fans will hope this marks the end of a challenging spell for their star, as the Blues navigate a demanding schedule including subsequent fixtures against Leeds United, Bournemouth, and Atalanta. Palmer's potential return could prove transformative in the title race and European campaign.
