Manchester United will be without forward Matheus Cunha for their Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this Sunday, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed during Friday's pre-match press conference.
Cunha, a summer signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, sustained a minor knock to the head during a training session at the club's Carrington base last Saturday. The injury led to his late withdrawal from the matchday squad for Monday's 1-0 home defeat to Everton, where United struggled offensively despite their opponents playing with 10 men for much of the game.
Amorim, speaking to reporters, provided an optimistic update on the Brazilian international's recovery timeline. "I expect to have Matheus in the next one [against West Ham United on Thursday], not this one," the Portuguese coach stated. He emphasized a cautious approach, noting the issue is not deemed serious but warrants rest to avoid further risk.
The absence compounds United's attacking woes, with striker Benjamin Sesko also sidelined due to a knee injury sustained prior to the international break—a setback Amorim described as requiring "a little bit more time" than initially anticipated. Defender Harry Maguire remains out with a hamstring problem, leaving the squad further depleted for the trip to south London.
United, who have won just one of their six away league games this season, face a Crystal Palace side that has proven a tough opponent, inflicting a 4-0 defeat on the Red Devils in their last meeting at Selhurst Park. Amorim's side will look to rebound from recent poor form, including three losses in their last four matches against Palace, as they aim to climb the Premier League table.
