Morocco Coach Confirms Achraf Hakimi Will Join Morocco Squad for AFCON Despite Ankle Injury

Walid Regragui, head coach of the Morocco national football team, has confirmed that Achraf Hakimi will accompany the squad to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2025 — both on and off the pitch — but only if he reaches full fitness. 

“If there’s a player who can make a fast comeback, that’s Hakimi. I am confident. We will only play him when he’s 100 % ready,” Regragui said.

Hakimi sustained a severe ankle sprain during a recent Champions League match for Paris Saint‑Germain, following a harsh challenge from Luis Díaz of Bayern Munich. Initial scans reportedly revealed no fracture, but the sprain is described as serious and the recovery timeline is estimated at six to eight weeks. Consequently, his participation in the early stages of the tournament is uncertain.
