The hosts stunned the visitors by racing into a 2-0 lead before half-time. Tete Morente opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a clinical finish on the counter-attack, and Sergio Akieme doubled the advantage just before the break, capitalising on a scramble inside the box.
Trailing at the interval, Real Madrid responded strongly after the restart. Centre-back Dean Huijsen pulled one back in the 78th minute, steering home from close range following a corner, before Jude Bellingham bundled in a dramatic equaliser in the 87th minute from a chaotic free-kick situation to salvage a point.
Kylian Mbappé was involved throughout, registering 13 attempts on goal and winning the late free-kick that led to Bellingham’s goal. His persistence also earned a second yellow card for Elche defender VÃctor Chust in stoppage time. Stand-in goalkeeper Iñaki Peña produced several crucial saves to keep Elche in the contest.
