Ahmed Musa Retires from International Football, Ends 15-Year Super Eagles Career

Ahmed Musa has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a 15-year career with the Super Eagles.

The 33-year-old forward made the announcement on social media, expressing his gratitude to Nigerian fans, coaches, teammates, and administrators for their support throughout his journey.

Musa, Nigeria's most capped player with 111 appearances, described his time with the national team as a "great honour". He recalled his early days, juggling call-ups to Nigeria's U-20, U-23, and senior teams simultaneously, and credited the Super Eagles with giving him a sense of purpose.

"Football gave me a career, but Nigeria gave me meaning," Musa wrote. He highlighted his achievements, including Nigeria's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and his four World Cup goals, which make him Nigeria's highest scorer at the tournament.

Musa's retirement comes after a decorated career, with notable performances against Argentina and Iceland at the World Cup. He expressed his appreciation for the support he received, saying, "To the fans at home and abroad, your support meant more to me than you know".

The forward joined Kano Pillars in September 2024 as a player and was later appointed as the club's general manager. Musa's legacy extends beyond his on-field accomplishments, inspiring future generations of Nigerian footballers.

As Musa steps away from international football, he does so with peace and gratitude, confident in the Super Eagles' future. "I know I gave my best. I know the Super Eagles will continue to move forward. And I know that this bond will never be broken," he said.
