According to the FRSC, Peller will face charges for reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving, in line with existing traffic laws. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed concern over the growing trend of reckless road use among celebrities, content creators, and social media influencers, warning that such behavior endangers lives and undermines national road safety efforts.
"The incident serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behavior on public roads," Mohammed said in a statement. He emphasized that live streaming, content creation, or any activity that distracts a driver while driving is a direct violation of traffic regulations and poses serious risks to both the driver and other road users.
The FRSC has directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence prosecution against Peller and urged professional bodies within the entertainment industry to take responsibility for the conduct of their members. Mohammed also reminded motorists that public roads are shared spaces governed by laws designed to protect lives and encouraged Nigerians to report dangerous driving behaviors.
Peller's accident has sparked widespread concern among his fans and the online community, with many expressing their well-wishes for his recovery. The incident has also reignited conversations about mental health and the pressures faced by public figures, particularly those in the social media spotlight.
The FRSC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer highways and enforcing traffic laws, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility requiring discipline, restraint, and respect for the law by all road users, without exception.
