Liverpool FC legend Robbie Fowler has revealed that he recently underwent surgery to remove a skin‑cancer lesion from his face.
The 50‑year‑old former England international shared before‑and‑after photographs on social media, confirming that the spot — identified as basal cell carcinoma — was removed successfully.
In a post to his followers, Fowler wrote:
“Before and After… been a few people lately saying the same thing, go and get those blemishes/spots checked, basal cell carcinoma. Caught early thankfully so all good… just need to get a club now.”
He also used the opportunity to urge the public to pay attention to suspicious skin spots and seek medical advice — emphasising the importance of early detection.
Fowler remains one of the most prolific strikers in Premier League history, having scored 163 top‑flight goals. He famously recorded the league’s second‑fastest hat‑trick — three goals in just four minutes and 33 seconds against Arsenal FC. He was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year in both 1995 and 1996 — one of only three players to win it in consecutive seasons. Internationally, he earned 26 caps for the England national football team, scoring seven goals.
Responses to Fowler’s announcement have been supportive. Among those sending well‑wishes were former teammate Luis Garcia, who wrote “Get well soon mate,” and former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, adding, “Good all is ok mate.”
Fowler’s candid post and recovery have drawn attention to the importance of skin health and regular checks — especially for blemishes or spots that seem unusual. Medical experts note that basal cell carcinoma typically develops in the skin’s top layer, often due to UV‑light exposure, and can be effectively treated when diagnosed early.
