In a bizarre bid for online attention, a popular Nigerian content creator known as Yunusa (also referred to as "Yunusa cold zobo") has gone viral for a shocking video filmed in a bustling local market. The clip, which surfaced on December 18, 2025, shows him dramatically unwrapping and crunching on raw Maggi seasoning cubes while chugging from a bottle labeled as Power Oil—a common brand of vegetable cooking oil in Nigeria.
The video begins with Yunusa approaching a market stall, grabbing packets of Maggi cubes (the concentrated bouillon stock popular across Africa for flavoring soups and stews). He crushes them in his hand, sprinkles the powder, and eats the cubes straight, making exaggerated faces of enjoyment for the camera. He then picks up a bottle of what appears to be vegetable oil, tilts it back, and gulps it down as onlookers gather and react with a mix of amusement, shock, and concern. The act is clearly performed for clout, with Yunusa playing up the absurdity to draw laughs and shares.
Social media exploded with reactions almost immediately. On X (formerly Twitter), users shared the clip widely, with posts garnering thousands of views in hours. One user commented, "Drinking oil and eating raw Maggi for views? We’ve traded common sense for clout and I’m genuinely concerned for his stomach." Another called it "annoying" but admitted the intentional gross-out factor worked for engagement. Hashtags and mentions of Nigerian celebrities like Wizkid and Davido were thrown in to boost visibility, a common tactic in viral challenges.
However, eagle-eyed viewers quickly pointed out signs that the stunt might be partially staged for safety. Close inspection reveals Yunusa subtly swapping or hiding something behind the Maggi cubes—possibly eating wara (a soft Nigerian cheese curd sold in markets) or shortbread instead of the hard, salty cubes, which would be extremely difficult and unpleasant to chew raw in large amounts. Similarly, the "oil" lacks the thick viscosity of real vegetable oil; it pours and swallows too easily, with no oily residue on his lips or bottle. Many suspect he replaced it with a clear drink like water or soda. As one commenter noted, "He's smart for deceiving everyone—he wouldn't play with his life like that."
This isn't the first time content creators have pushed boundaries with extreme eating challenges. Globally, trends like the "raw ramen challenge" have led to tragedies, including a 13-year-old's death from intestinal obstruction after consuming multiple dry packets.
In Nigeria and India (where Maggi noodles originated), eating uncooked instant noodles or cubes raw is a common childhood snack, but in moderation—experts warn against excess due to high sodium, preservatives, and potential digestive issues from undigested starches swelling in the stomach.
