Pep Guardiola Confirms John Stones Injury Ahead of Mid-Week Clash

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City defender John Stones is injured and unavailable for the club’s upcoming mid-week fixture.
Stones was notably absent from the squad for the weekend’s 3–0 victory over Sunderland AFC, prompting concerns over his fitness. Guardiola, speaking after the win, stated plainly: “He was injured, yes.” When pressed for a return timetable, the manager admitted uncertainty: “To be honest, I don’t know.”

The timing of the setback is far from ideal. Manchester City are scheduled to face Real Madrid in the mid-week, as part of their European campaign. Stones’ absence adds to the defensive burden as City prepare for a challenging tie in Spain.

With a congested December schedule looming — including high-stakes domestic and continental fixtures — the blow to City’s defensive options could complicate rotation and tactical planning. Guardiola and the Manchester City medical staff will hope for clarity soon, but for now Stones remains sidelined.
