Since his summer move from Manchester United in 2024, the 28‑year‑old midfielder has become central to Napoli’s success. On the final day of the Serie A season, McTominay scored a spectacular goal in Napoli’s 2–0 win over Cagliari Calcio — the goal that secured the “Scudetto” for Napoli. Over the season, he registered 12 goals and six assists in league play, underlining his all‑around impact from midfield.

The award was presented at the Gran Gala del Calcio ceremony in Milan, where McTominay was also included in the 2024‑25 Serie A Team of the Season. With this honour, McTominay becomes the first Scot ever to win Serie A’s top individual accolade — a historic milestone for both him and Scottish football. He joins a prestigious list of former winners that includes global football icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, Kaká, and Zinedine Zidane.

After receiving the award, McTominay described the moment as “just a dream.” He spoke about the dedication and sacrifice of the entire squad, saying the success was as much for the fans and the people who supported Napoli from day one.
