The Super Eagles of Nigeria have confirmed that every invited player has now arrived in camp, completing their preparation build-up ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The milestone was officially acknowledged on Super Eagles social media and subsequently reported by multiple outlets, signalling a significant boost for head coach Eric Sékou Chelle as Nigeria enters the final stretch of preparations for the continental championship.
After days of gradual arrivals in Cairo, Egypt, where the Super Eagles’ camp is based, the last outstanding player, Victor Osimhen, touched down on Wednesday, formally bringing the entire 28-man squad together ahead of the team’s scheduled departure to Morocco. Osimhen’s arrival marked the completion of the squad after a period of anticipation, as he had been the lone absentee linked to final club commitments earlier in the build-up.
The Nigerian national team’s camp officially opened in mid-December at the Renaissance Hotel in Cairo, with the first arrivals touching down as early as December 14. Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was first through the door, arriving shortly after 2 a.m. to signal the start of full squad mobilisation. In the ensuing days, key players including Stanley Nwabali, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and others reported for duty, boosting numbers in the squad and allowing the technical staff to begin structured training sessions ahead of their friendly preparations.
As the camp filled out, the Super Eagles consistently shared updates via their official social media channels — particularly X (formerly Twitter) — emphasising the gradual build-up of players and staff as they geared up for AFCON. Prominent names like Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, and Paul Onuachu were among those confirmed present in camp during the latter stages of the assembly.
The final piece of the squad jigsaw came with Osimhen’s arrival, which not only completed Nigeria’s numbers but also injected further optimism into a camp already buzzing with energy. His presence adds elite firepower to a forward line that also includes Ademola Lookman and other seasoned attackers. With all 28 players now assembled, Coach Chelle has access to his full roster as competition looms large, and every player can stake a claim for a starting berth.
The Super Eagles leveraged their time in Cairo to stage a warm-up friendly against Egypt, using the match as a valuable tactical test ahead of the AFCON opener. Following the conclusion of their Egyptian camp phase, Nigeria will board a chartered flight to Fès, Morocco, where they will be based for their Group C assignments. Nigeria’s AFCON campaign officially kicks off with a match against Tanzania on December 23, followed by fixtures against Tunisia and Uganda.
Completing their squad assembly at camp is a symbolic and strategic moment for the Super Eagles. It signals not only a logistical milestone but also a psychological lift — affirming that Nigeria’s preparation for continental glory is firmly underway, with the team poised and ready to make a significant impact at AFCON 2025.
