As the Super Eagles of Nigeria kick off their campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled the confirmed starting lineup for the Group C clash against Tanzania's Taifa Stars. The match, set for December 23, 2025, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Fez, marks Nigeria's bid for a fourth continental title after falling short in the 2023 final.
Chelle has opted for an attacking setup featuring a four-man forward line, pairing Montpellier's Akor Adams with Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen up top. This bold choice aims to exploit Tanzania's defensive vulnerabilities early on.

The confirmed Super Eagles starting XI (4-2-2-2 formation):

- Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali
- Defenders: Bright Osayi-Samuel (RB), Semi Ajayi (CB), Calvin Bassey (CB), Zaidu Sanusi (LB)
- Midfielders: Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi
- Attacking Midfielders/Wingers: Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman
- Forwards: Akor Adams, Victor Osimhen

This lineup showcases a blend of experience and firepower. Osimhen, Nigeria's talisman and one of Africa's top scorers, leads the attack alongside Adams, who earns a start after impressing in training. The wings are occupied by the dynamic duo of Chukwueze (AC Milan) and Lookman (Atalanta), both capable of cutting inside to create chaos.

In midfield, captain Ndidi provides steel and cover, while Iwobi dictates play with his vision. The backline remains solid with Bassey and Ajayi partnering centrally, flanked by the energetic Osayi-Samuel and Sanusi.

Nigeria enters as overwhelming favorites against a Tanzania side yet to win an AFCON match in their history. The Taifa Stars, under interim coach Miguel Gamondi, are expected to sit deep and counter, led by veteran Mbwana Samatta.

The Super Eagles are motivated by recent disappointments, including missing the 2026 World Cup. A strong start is crucial in a tough Group C that includes Tunisia and Uganda.
