Arbeloa Takes Helm at Real Madrid After Alonso Exit

Real Madrid has appointed Álvaro Arbeloa as the new manager, following Xabi Alonso's sudden departure. Arbeloa, a former Real Madrid defender, takes over immediately and will lead the team against Albacete in the Copa del Rey round of 16 tie on Wednesday. As a player, Arbeloa was part of Real Madrid's successful era, winning eight titles, including two European Cups, and was also part of Spain's 2010 World Cup-winning team.
Arbeloa, 43, had been coaching Real Madrid Castilla since June 2025 and has spent his entire coaching career in the club's youth academy. He previously managed the Under-14 side and led the Juvenil A team to a treble in 2022-2023. Arbeloa's appointment marks a significant moment in the club's commitment to fostering internal talent.

Real Madrid's decision to appoint Arbeloa comes after a disappointing run of results under Alonso, including a 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. The club currently trails Barcelona by four points in La Liga.
