Victor Boniface, the Super Eagles striker, has opened up about his season-ending knee injury, revealing he's been putting on a "fake smile" for almost a year. The 25-year-old forward underwent surgery on January 10, 2026, and will miss the remainder of the season with Werder Bremen.
Boniface took to social media, expressing his frustration and gratitude: "Been putting fake smile for almost a year. But God knows why all this is happening. Grateful to God". He also urged people not to enter depression in difficult situations, saying "Omo if e reach ur turn make depression wound you".

The Nigerian international has struggled with injuries since joining Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, playing only 11 games and registering two assists. His knee problem, which began in December, required surgery, and he'll now focus on recovery.

Werder Bremen's Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed Boniface's loan deal will remain until the end of the season, but the club won't rush his return. Coach Horst Steffen emphasized patience, stating Boniface is "on the path" to recovery, but progress will be gradual.
