Thiago Silva, the veteran Brazilian defender, has joined Porto on a short-term deal until June 2026, with an option to extend for another year. This move marks his return to European football and the club where he played for Porto B in 2004-2005. Silva, 41, terminated his contract with Fluminense six months early, citing his desire to play in Europe and boost his chances of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Silva's impressive career includes stints at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan, with 31 trophies to his name, including the Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. He expressed his excitement about joining Porto, saying, "I'm super motivated. I hope I can help in the best way possible".

Porto president André Villas-Boas and coach Francesco Farioli welcomed Silva, praising his experience and leadership. Silva's first appearance for Porto could come soon, as they look to increase their lead at the top of the Primeira Liga.
