Liverpool’s 2017-18 Premier League campaign got off to the worst possible start when they conceded within 10 minutes of their match against Watford.
Defending from corners was a real problem for the Reds last season and Liverpool fans would have hoped that Jurgen Klopp had prioritised set-piece defending during the pre-season.
But wouldn’t you know it, Watford’s goal came from a corner.
Jose Holebas sent in a perfect delivery that was met by Stefano Okaka, who, unmarked, headed home from yards out.
It was woeful defending. Okaka ghosted in ahead of Roberto Firmino and Simon Mignolet had no chance of keeping his header out.
Lineker reacted on Twitter reacted with a more humorous tweet.
“Liverpool concede to a Watford corner,” the Match of the Day host wrote on social media.
“If that had been a weakness last season they'd have had time to work on it...oh wait a minute.”
Former England and Newcastle forward, Shearer responded
Shearer wrote: “Van Dijk valuation just gone up another 15 million!”
