Niger Tornadoes have been hammered with a fine of N1,000,000.00 by the League Management Company (LMC) of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
This was following the unruly behaviour exhibited by fans of the Minna-based club during their Matchday-5 encounter with Bendel Insurance.
According to LMC, fans threw objects including water sachets onto the pitch during their goalless draw against Bendel Insurance.
“Niger Tornadoes has been charged for breaching the Framework & Rules of the #NPFL during its Matchday 5 fixture vs Bendel Insurance,” LMC tweeted on the official handle, @LMCNPFL.
“Some Tornadoes supporters threw objects including water sachets onto the pitch & the technical area.
“Tornadoes has been fined N1 million for the acts of its supporters who threw objects onto the pitch & the technical area.
“A suspended order for Tornadoes to play its subsequent home matches behind closed door, which order is suspended for the probationary period of the rest of the season.”
Niger Tornadoes, who are yet to record a win in the campaign, have 48 hours to appeal the sanctions or elect to be dealt by a commission.
They will host Sunshine Stars at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna in their next league game.
Meanwhile, the Minna club tweeted on Tuesday of the appointment of an interim manager. The tweet read: “The Honorable Commissioner of Niger State Ministry of Sports Development, Honorable Emmanuel Duza Babur had approved the Niger Tornadoes Football Club Interim Coach in person of .@Azeezcoach during a combined meeting of the Ministry Management and @NigerTornadoes management.”
