New Arsenal signing, Kieran Tierney, joined the club on transfer deadline day in a £25 million deal from Scottish champions, Celtic, but arrived the Emirates Stadium nursing a groin injury picked up in the final days of his time at Parkhead.
The 22-year-old left-back underwent surgery for the injury in May and having gone far in his recovery, Arsenal have now revealed in an update on its website that the Scotland international is expected back in full training in five weeks.
“[Tierney] continues to receive treatment and further assessments. [He is] aiming to participate in full training in October,” wrote the club in a short statement on its official website on Thursday.
Arsenal’s deadline day signing is one of six players the club gave an update on their injury situation and expected return to full fitness.
Spanish right-back, Hector Bellerin, who is recovering from an injury to his left knee also expected back in full training in October along with central defender, Dinos Mavropanos, according to the club.
However, one immediate cause for concern is the availability of club captain, Granit Xhaka, who suffered a bruised lower back and leg during the 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League last Sunday.
The Swiss midfielder’s injury is being assessed by the club as the medical staff are expected to keep an eye on his recovery ahead of the clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Rob Holding is in contention to be part of the squad for the Premier League match having returned to full training with the first team while youngster, Emile Smith-Rowe is two weeks from returning to full fitness.
