AC Milan defender Leo Duarte is set to miss up to four months after having surgery to repair a torn achilles tendon, the club have confirmed.
The Brazil defender arrived from Flamengo over the summer and despite having struggled for opportunities under Marco Giampaolo, he had seemingly established himself as a starter under Stefano Pioli, forming a promising partnership with Alessio Romagnoli.
However, an official club statement confirms that Duarte today underwent an operation at the Alfredson Tendon Clinic in Umeå to 'treat a fracture to the calcaneus at the point where it meets the left achilles tendon'.
The operation was performed by Professor HÃ¥kan Alfredson with Team Doctor Stefano Mazzoni in attendance. The operation went to plan, and his recovery time is estimated to be 3-4 months.
