Popular political activist Deji Adeyanju has released new pictures showing him recovering well after he was attacked by suspected thugs during a #FreeSowore protest in Abuja. In the post which was shared on his Instagram page, Deji Adeyanju said this would be the first time he has been able to stand up after the attack.
On the 23rd of December, suspected thugs had pounced upon the activist when he joined other members of some Nigerian civil society groups to protest at the offices of the National Human Rights Commission. The Protest had been called to demand that President Buhari release Omoyele Sowore and other prisoners of conscience and to ask the government to respect the rule of law.
During the protest, suspected miscreants led by one Ibrahim Dala, who described himself as the co-convener of the Centre for Leadership and Development Initiatives, were seen in multiple eyewitness videos chasing Deji Adeyanju until they caught him and rained blows on him. Speaking of the attack, Dala said, “We would not allow foreign mercenaries and opposition to come and sabotage the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Two days ago, Deji Adeyanju was flown out of Nigeria to Dubai to receive medical care due to the severity of the injuries he sustained during the attack. The pictures shared by him today show Dr Joe Odumakin, another famous activist who Adeyanju thanks for her inspirational visit and prayers. For those who might think the attack would have taken the steam out of the Deji Adeyanju and his fellow comrades, Deji added that “Aluta Continua”.
