Leaders, Plateau United suffer their first loss of the season, going down 1-0 to Heartland in Owerri, as eight fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football Leagues match day 7 produced 23 goals on Sunday.
Chibundu Amah’s 75rd minute goal condemned Plateau United to their first defeat and gave Heartland their second win of the campaign at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Despite the loss, the visitors retained top spot on the log with 14 points, one point more than second-placed Wikki Tourists, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ifeanyi Ubah United in Nnewi.
Sunshine striker, Israel Abia weighed in with four goals as his team thrashed visiting Nasarawa United 4-2 at Akure Township Stadium. He brought his team level on 36 minutes; a few seconds after Manga Mohammed put the visitors in front and rounded off the scoring on 76 minutes. Abdallah Mohammed accounted for Nasarawa’s second goal that restored parity at 2-2 on 48 minutes.
Former champions, Kano Pillars thrashed Delta Force 6-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, with Chijioke Alaekwe weighing in with a brace for the home team.
David Ebuka opened the floodgate of goals as early as the 4th minute, Musa doubled the lead on 22 minutes, Auwalu Ali Malam made it 3-0 on 53 minutes while Bala Yahuwa struck five minutes later to reduce the tally in favour of the visitors. Old war horse, Rabiu Ali made it 4-1 before Chijioke closed out the match with his brace.
The victory saw Pillars move up to 10th position in the standings.
Ndifreke Effiong Udo produced the second hat-trick on the day, finding the back of the net on 6, 14 and 60 minutes, as his team, Akwa United cruised to a 4-0 win against Adamawa United at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Paul Obata scored the other goal, third for the home team on 25 minutes, as the Uyo-based team move out from relegation zone to 14th position on the log.
Katsina United edged MFM FC 1-0 at home while two fixtures ended in stalemates. Warri Wolves and visiting Lobi Stars battling to a barren draw at Warri City Stadium while third-placed Akwa Starlets forced Abia Warriors to 1-1 draw at Umuahia Township Stadium.
The fixtures involving Enyimba International and Rangers International will hold at a later date. Both clubs were involved in CAF Confederation Cup duties on the day. The latter edged San Pedro 1-0 in a Group G tie at Enyimba International Stadium while the latter slumped to a 3-0 loss to Egyptian side Al Masry in a Group A game at Al Masry Club Stadium in Port Said.
