Fernandes, who joined from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window, was pictured shopping with his wife Ana Pinho in Tesco in Altrincham town centre on Wednesday.

The pair have stocked up for their new lives in Manchester by going on a supermarket spree for household necessities, evident from their shopping trolley which was packed to the full as they headed back to their car in the parking lot.

Their supermarket purchases included an ironing board, drying rack, household brush, toilet roll and bottles of coke as they seek to adapt to their new surroundings as soon as possible.

The Portugal international, who first met his wife when they were 16 at school, has hit the ground running since his big-money transfer - scoring his first goal for his new club in the comfortable 3-0 victory over Watford last weekend.

He is set to play some sort of role when United host Club Brugge in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday, with the scoreline poised at 1-1.

Speaking before the European game at Old Trafford, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could not speak highly enough of the newest member of his squad.
