Jose Mourinho talks too much to referee instead of his talking to his players - Lampard

The Carabao Cup clash on Tuesday night saw Chelsea travel to face their north London rival in Tottenham.



Both managers needed to win to give their team some confidence after both played draws in their league games over the weekend.

For Chelsea, the Blues came from behind against West Brom to play a 3-3 draw while Tottenham drew 1-1 against Newcastle after Callum Wilson scored a late penalty to cancel Lucas Moira goal.

Chelsea broke the deadlock after 14 minutes when Timo Werner scored his first goal since he joined from RB Leipzig.

The Blues were on the verge on knocking out Spurs from the league cup until Erik Lamela who scored a late equaliser for Tottenham.

Lampard who enjoyed some level of success under Jose Mourinho when he was player admitted that the Portuguese boss spends lots of time complaining to the officals rather than talking to his players.

According to him, Jose Mourinho has an habit of talking too much with the officials. 


"We were having some fun on the line. I get on well with Jose and I think he said that to me," Lampard said post-match.  

"I commented on the fact that he seemed to speak more with the referee than he speaks with his players so it is just a moment with us.

The game had to be decided via penalty and Mason Mount missed the decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out. 

It ended in a 5-4 penalty shoot out at the end.

Frank admitted that he has a lot of respect for Mourinho haven played a lot under him as a player of Chelsea and winning trophies at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "I have a huge respect for Jose, no matter what he says on the touchline. I think he was feeling the sense of the first half and how it was. All was well at the end of the game and that will never change."
