The injury news of Chelsea's new goalkeeper has since stunned fans. The fans of the West London outfit have been keeping their hopes on a high following his performance against Crystal Palace last week.
Frank Lampard decided to hand Edouard Mendy his first league debut and he kept a clean sheet as Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 4-0.
It's understood that he joined for £22 million ($28m) on a five-year contract as he's expected to bring competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga who has been inconsistent.
According to Goal, Edouard Mendy has returned to Chelsea after suffering an injury while on international duty with Senegal.
The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed the news via an official statement, which reads: "The Senegalese Football Federation announces the goalkeeper of the National Selection Edouard Mendy sustained an injury to the right thigh that occurred during the training session on Wednesday, October 07, 2020 and has undergone a medical examination at the hospital in Rabat.
"Edouard Mendy has also left the group this afternoon to return to his Club (Chelsea) where he will undergo further examinations."
Mendy's performance caught the eyes of Chelsea during his spell with Rennes in the Ligue 1.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper helped Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time last season.
The statement added: "The Senegalese Football Federation wishes him a speedy recovery.
"He will be replaced by the young goalkeeper of the U20 national team, Boubacar Fall, who was regrouping in Toubab Dialao and who moved to Rabat in the early evening."
He's now a doubt when Chelsea travel to Saint Mary's to face Southampton on October 17.
