Nuno Tavares has revealed that he want to join Marseille permanently after spending just few weeks with the Ligue 1 side.

The 22-year-old is professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Ligue 1 club Marseille, on loan from Premier League club Arsenal.

Tavares completed the move to France on season loan at Marseille after falling down the ranks under Mikel Arteta side.

The Gunners have already signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City as replacement for Kieran Tierney at Arsenal.

The 22-year-old played 28 times across all competitions for Arsenal last term but wasn't convincing with his performance.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Tavares said: 'At Arsenal, I do not know if it was a problem of competition with Kieran Tierney, but for me that's not even the point."

The Portugal U-21 revealed that he wanted an option of joining Marseille on permanent deal included in his loan terms but Arsenal refused the offer.

He added: 'I came to Marseille to finally be able to play in my position. When signing with OM, I wanted to have an option to buy, but Arsenal refused. With my agents, we always wanted this purchase option, but Arsenal didn't.

'Now I'm at OM, and with or without an option, I'm happy. At Arsenal, I would have probably only played in the cup."

Nuno Tavares has already made an impact since arriving in Marseille with three goals in his first five games.

'I came to Marseille to play in my position, in the Champions League, in the league and in the cup [competition]. Marseille gave me this opportunity,' Tavares concluded.
