It took Manchester City eight minutes to score the opening goal from Phil Foden who struck from close range.
The Citizens extended their advantage with two quick goals from Erling Haaland to put them in comfortable advantage.
Just before half-time, Phil Foden grabbed his second goal of the game in the 44 minutes.
Manchester United were able to pull a goal back in thr 56 minutes from their summer signing Antony Santos.
