Chelsea's goalkeeper Edouard Mendy blunder helps Netherlands record 2-0 victory over Senegal in World Cup

Senegal national team have suffered 2-0 defeat against Netherlands in their opening game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. 

The African Champions were able to match the Dutch side pressing abilities in the first half but things fell apart in late second half. 

Chelsea's goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could be blamed for the goals which saw his team lose three points. 

Senegal have been grouped along with host nation Qatar, Ecuador, and Netherlands in group A. 

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy conceded two goals against the Oranje in their first game of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.


The former Stade de Rennes football club goalkeeper started ahead of Alfred Gomis for the Senegal national team. 


But two costly second half mistake led to Senegal national team's defeat, with youngster Gakpo and Davy Klassen getting the goals for Louis Van Gaal side. 


Netherlands found the break through after Cody Gakpo capitalized on Edouard Mendy's mistake in the 84th minute. 

The Chelsea goalkeeper failed to calculate his jump as he tried to pounce on a long ball from Frenkie De Jong. 

Edouard Mendy was unable to make many saves in the game and he miscalculated the ball that was scored by Cody Gakpo in the second half.


Davy Klassen doubled the lead in the 90th minute to ensure that Netherlands secured their victory.
