Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has advised England manager Gareth Southgate about playing two players ahead of their opening group game in the World Cup.

The Three Lions have already touched down in Doha for their campaign in 2022 World Cup.

Gareth Southgate men will face Iran in their first match of the FIFA competition on Monday.

Meanwhile, Paul Merson has expressed his worry about Mason Mount and Kieran Trippier.

According to the football journalist, Gareth Southgate shouldn't start the two English footballer.

He said that Mount and Trippier are not needed in their match but they could play other games.

“I worry about this game [England vs Iran] because Iran have a brilliant coach in Carlos Queiroz, who will set up his team to nullify our attacking threat,” Merson told Daily Star.

“Mason Mount and Trippier will certainly play in other matches, but I don’t think they’re needed in this game.”

Paul Merson also highlighted that Iran have a great coach in Carlos Queiroz and he will set up his team to be difficult for their opponents.

England are in Group B at the World Cup and will clash with Iran, Wales and USA.
