Joe Fraga, Pele's agent, has confirmed that the legendary Brazilian football player passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.

He had been hospitalized since November with numerous diseases. Kely Nascimento, his daughter, posted the following Instagram tribute on Thursday: “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

The 82-year-old, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was also having issues with his heart and kidneys.

In September 2021, Pele had a tumor removed from his colon. On November 29, he was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo.

Pele, regarded by many as the greatest football player ever, led Brazil to three World Cup titles in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He has scored 77 goals in 92 games, making him Brazil's leading goal scorer.
