After a prolonged battle with colon cancer, Pele passed away on Thursday at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo at the age of 82.

He is hailed as a god-like figure in his native Brazil, where he is regarded as the greatest soccer player ever.

After the soccer legend, who led Brazil to its first World Cup in 1958, passed away, the nation went into mourning. Many people flocked to the streets or Santos' stadium to pay tribute to the King.

On November 29, Pele was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

Since September 2021, when he had surgery to remove a tumor from his colon, he had issues with his kidneys and prostate.

At dawn on Monday, Pele's body will be transported from the Albert Einstein Hospital to the Urbano Caldeira Stadium in Vila Belmiro. His coffin will be positioned in the middle of the pitch.
