The former Manchester United player Ronaldo led his nation as its captain and started each of their group games as they won Group H. Portugal did struggle at times, however, as they only just managed to defeat Ghana 3-2 before falling to South Korea in their final game.
Even though Ronaldo only scored one goal, a penalty in the first game, many people were shocked when he was benched for the match against Switzerland.
Ramos started the scoring and eventually finished with the first hat-trick of the competition in a 6-1 victory.
Ronaldo entered the game for the final 15 minutes, and an offside goal was disallowed. As Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals, Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro, and Rafael Leao all scored goals.
The 37-year-old, though, has responded to Portugal's victory in a much more diplomatic manner.
He wrote on Instagram: "Incredible day for Portugal, with a historic result in the biggest competition in world football. Luxury exhibition of a team full of talent and youth. Our Selection is to be congratulated. The dream is alive! Until the end! Strength, Portugal! "
