El Hadji Diouf, a former Liverpool striker, appeared briefly during the live broadcast of England vs. Senegal at the Qatar World Cup.
The retired Senegalese stunned fans with his physique as he was seen speaking with Senegal's Teranga Lions captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, after the game.
Senegal were eliminated in the round of 16 by the Three Lions of England over the weekend.
Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka scored for the Three Lions, who will now face France in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Meanwhile Diouf, now 41, was an assistant coach on Senegal's backroom staff at the World Cup.
Remember that between 2002 and 2014, Diouf played for a number of English football teams, including Liverpool, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Rangers, Doncaster Rovers, and Leeds United.
Not everyone in England has fond memories of the two-time African Footballer of the Year, who was selected for the 2002 World Cup all-star team. This is especially true for those connected to Liverpool, like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
Gerrard wrote of his old Anfield colleague in his 2015 autobiography, "It seemed to me, Diouf did not care about football and about Liverpool."
On the day Gerrard announced his retirement a year later, Diouf mocked the legendary Premier League player on French television, saying: "When I arrived, I showed [Gerrard] he was nothing at all. He was absolutely nothing.
In the days leading up to Sunday's Round of 16 match between Senegal and England, Diouf couldn't help but make another barely disguised jab at Gerrard.
Speaking about how England’s approach has changed under Gareth Southgate, Diouf was quoted by The Guardian as saying: “They all copy – the national team as well – Pep Guardiola and Man City. They play the same way: they want the ball and score a lot of goals and play tiki-taka.
“[The] players can do it as well, they have a good team and a very good team spirit. It’s not like the Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard time – the two of them don’t like each other – it’s about team spirit and Gareth Southgate did a great job.”
