Arsenal maintained their impressive Premier League form by defeating West Ham United 3-1 on Christmas Day.

Mikel Arteta's team remains first, eight points ahead of Manchester City, which will play Leeds United on Wednesday, and seven points ahead of Newcastle, which is in second place.

However, the Gunners had a slow start at the Emirates Stadium and were down 1-0 at the break thanks to a penalty kick from Said Benrahma.

Bukayo Saka latched onto a poor Martin Odegaard attempt and buried the ball past Lukasz Fabianski to equalize for Arsenal, who fought back and soon found their rhythm.

Five minutes later, a fierce shot from Gabriel Martinelli at the near post gave the hosts the lead, and just 20 minutes before the final whistle, Eddie Nketiah sealed the victory with a fine finish into the bottom corner.

In Brazil's final World Cup group match against Cameroon, the Brazilian suffered damage to the medial ligament. He has since had knee surgery, and it's possible that he won't return until March.

At the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, Jesus was shown with a leg brace and crutches, and the striker was seen supporting his teammates from the stands and even the sidelines at one point.

Speaking after the game, Saka said Jesus spoke the himself and other players during the half time.

“Of course they [Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko] are both champions so they bring that belief that we can win every game and go all the way,” goalscorer Saka told Amazon Prime.

“Every game they are telling us how important it is.

“Today Jesus wasn’t even on the pitch but we can still feel his presence. He was speaking to me in the dressing room and the other boys, which is so important.”
