In Imo State, criminals have destroyed an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office.

Additionally, they abducted a number of construction workers, who were later rescued.

The development comes just a few days after an office of the commission was set on fire in Ebonyi State, destroying election supplies like ballot boxes.

Festus Okoye, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee and National Commissioner, stated that the Imo attack occurred in the Orlu Local Government Area.

He said that Prof. Sylvia Uchenna Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, reported the attack in a statement.

Festus Okoye issued the following statement on Dec. 2:Our Orlu Local Government Area office was attacked, according to Professor Sylvia Uchenna Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State.The incident took place on Thursday, December 1, 2022.


After an earlier attack, the building, which is undergoing extensive renovations, was vandalized and partially set ablaze.

Seven construction workers were kidnapped, but three of them were later freed.

"Without the quick response of the Nigeria Police, which has deployed its personnel to the site, the damage would have been more extensive."

He went on to say: "This is just one more attack.The numerous attacks on its facilities and their negative effects on our preparations for the 2023 General Election have once more alarmed the Commission."
