After eight months in charge of the Black Stars, the 47-year-old who took over in April is stepping down.
Before Ghana's World Cup playoff match against Nigeria, Addo was first appointed interim manager to oversee the team's comeback on the international stage.
After the match, the former Ghana international held a press conference and announced his resignation.
“As I stated earlier, it was evident that I would cease after the World Cup.The gaffer stated, "I like my role at Dortmund, and right now, me and my family see our future in Germany."
Addo is employed by the Bundesliga club where he previously played as a "talent coach."
He continued, "I said I would quit after the World Cup even if we were world champions."
Ghana must quickly hire a new coach after Addo leaves before continuing their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in March.
