The World governing body for football, FIFA has praised veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo as he bow out of 2022 FIFA world Cup in Qatar.
Ronaldo briefly covered his face with his palm, but his displeasure was obvious as he walked into tunnel after full time.
The 37-year-old great forward's World Cup game was likely his final opportunity to win football's top award.
For the second straight game, Ronaldo was left off the starting lineup. His team was already down when he entered the game as a substitute.
On the day of his 196th international appearance, which tied him with Kuwait forward Badr Al-Mutawa for the most in men's soccer, Ronaldo experienced a terrible ending.

He now departs on the biggest stage of them all as the only player to score in five World Cups, although he still has eight goals left in the competition, one fewer than Eusébio's mark with Portugal.
FIFA posted a video on Twitter in honor of the master, showcasing some of his greatest World Cup performances.
"A myth. an icon. a device. Cristiano, thank you," FIFA said.
