On Wednesday night, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria joined President Joe Biden of the United States to witness the World Cup semifinal game between France and Morocco.

In a picture posted by the US president, both leaders—who are in Washington, DC for the US-Africa Leaders' summit—can be seen sitting with other presidents, including Liberian George Weah.

Abiy Ahmed Ali and Aziz Akhannouch, the prime ministers of Ethiopia and Morocco, as well as Lazarus Chakwera, the president of Malawi, were all there for the game.

The Moroccan Prime Minister and I watched Morocco's 2-0 loss against France, and despite the loss, I was pleased of the team's effort, Biden said on his Twitter page.

He posted: “It was a great honor to watch today’s World Cup match alongside Prime Minister Akhannouch. No matter who you’re rooting for, it was remarkable to watch how much this team has been able to achieve.”

Morocco is being hailed as the actual winner despite missing out on the championship match after losing to France 2-0, defying the odds to go to the semifinals.

On Sunday, December 18, 2022, France will now face Argentina in the championship game. However, before that, in the third-place play-off, Morocco will face Croatia.
